Phoenix Rising

Legend of the Phoenix
 by Vlinder

The Phoenix bird symbolizes immortality, resurrection, and life after death. In ancient Greek and Egyptian mythology, it is associated with the sun god. According to the Greeks the bird lives in Arabia, near a cool well. Every morning at dawn, the Sun God would stop his chariot to listen to the bird sing a beautiful song while it bathed in the well. Only one Phoenix exists at one time. When the bird felt its death was near, every 500 to 1,461 years, it would build a nest of aromatic wood and set it on fire. The bird then was consumed by the flames. A new Phoenix sprang forth from the pyre. It embalmed the ashes of its predecessor in an egg of myrrh and flew with it to Heliopolis, "City of the Sun," where the egg was deposited on the altar of the sun god. The Phoenix, has become a universal symbol of rebirth and the most famous of all fabulous birds. Clad in feathers of red and gold, the color of the rising sun, it had a melodious voice that became mournful with approaching death. Other creatures were then so overcome by its beauty and sadness that they themselves fell dead. According to legend, only one Phoenix could live at a time. The Phoenix never died permanently. Legend says it existed when the universe was created and that it knows secrets of life and reincarnation even the deities do not know.

From the ashes something of beauty arose.  I think it's the same with life sometimes.   We all face hardships and trials at some point.  The loss of a loved one, through the end of a relationship or through death.  Financial situations, loss of jobs or business.  Sickness, ourselves or those close to our hearts.  It seems as though we find our way through one battle just to have another one thrown at us.

But like the Phoenix, from the ashes, we can arise.  While, at the time, it doesn't feel this way, we have the opportunity for something new.

I've meet several people here, on line and on this side of the screen, who have shown incredible courage, when faced with the challenges of life.  A chance for rebirth, so to speak.  They have been knocked down, picked themselves up and started again.  I've been there myself, on more than one occasion.

From the ashes of my life, I found myself.  It wasn't an easy journey or discovery.  There were many things about myself that I didn't like.  Only I could change that but, I didn't have to do it alone.  I had friends online and in my life that were there to give support.  A hand that reached through the darkness.  A voice that whispered, hold on to your dreams and fly.

The support and friendships I've formed on line have played such a part in my life.  We're all here for each other through the rough times.  We share not only our pain but the joys in our life.  We give each other strength and courage to go on even when we feel we're at our lowest.  We encourage each other to follow our dreams.

So, to my friends, who are going through the rough spots in life, you're not alone.  And like the Phoenix, you will arise from the ashes.

This legend always gives me a sense of hope.  And, from time to time, I like to share it.

Thank you all for being there for me...........
